Our target is WCAG 2.2 level AA, and we do not meet it yet. This page says what works today, what we know does not, and how to tell us about anything else.

What works today

  • Every diagram is text. A Diagrammo diagram is a plain-text file in the DGMO language. The source can be read by any screen reader, searched and compared line by line, so what a diagram says is never locked inside a picture.
  • Drawn diagrams announce themselves. Every rendered diagram is marked as an image and labelled with its chart type, such as “Sequence diagram”. Its words are real text rather than outlines, so they can be selected and read.
  • The editor is a standard text editor (CodeMirror 6), which works with your platform’s screen reader.
  • Reduced motion is respected. When your system asks for less motion, the app’s animations and diagram transitions stop.
  • Light and dark themes follow your system setting.
  • Dialogs close with Escape, and the file finder and command palette can be driven entirely from the keyboard.
  • This site has a skip-to-content link on every page and declares its language.
  • Every change to the app is checked by an automated accessibility linter before it is committed.

What we know does not work yet

  • A diagram’s label names its type, not its content. A screen reader hears “Sequence diagram”, not what the diagram shows. The source text carries the content.
  • The default colour palette is not safe for deuteranopia (red–green colour blindness), so some pairs of colours in a diagram can look alike. A diagram can set its own colours to avoid this.
  • The file tree has no arrow-key navigation and is not presented to screen readers as a tree.
  • Some dialogs do not keep keyboard focus inside them while they are open.
  • High-contrast and forced-colours modes are not handled.
  • Hover-only details on some chart types, such as the legs of a map, cannot be reached by keyboard or screen reader.
  • We have not had an audit with assistive technology. Everything on this page comes from our own review of the code.
